My Thoughts on Birds

Birds how do I feel about birds well they fly and that makes me think they will end up in my hair. How silly is that? I’ve never had a bird land on the top of my head that I can remember a bug or two perhaps. Maybe it all started many years ago at Disneyland in CA when I was a girl.

I remember my mom, sister and I going to the Captain Hook place to get something to eat (not sure that is the name it’s been a long time). Anyway it took forever to get up to the counter and we finally got or lunch. Have no idea what I ordered but my mom ordered a salad and paid a kings ransom for it according to her.

We went back outside found a place to sit down and starting eating then a bird well you know poo’d in my mom’s salad. I’m hoping she didn’t finish it I can’t recall that, it has stick with me for years no wonder I don’t go to many barbecues lol. So will I ever have a bird?

No, they make noise and they poo in peoples salad. They are pretty to look at though and for my friends that have them God bless you.

Another bird story many years later when I left CA and moved to West Virginia I had a heck of a time with the birds and trying to sleep, you may wonder what the two have in common.

Well when I lived in CA when I would wake up every morning you would hear the trash trucks, the neighbors talking, kids on their way to school, cars going by, you know lot’s of noise. When I moved up on the hill there were no other noises, no trash trucks, no neighbors, no kids going to school just the bleeping, chirping birds.

Of course there was the 3-hour time difference which didn’t help. When it was the crack o dawn in WV it was 2 or 3 in the morning in CA and I hadn’t been asleep that long.

I eventually got used to the birds and there were many more varieties and colorful birds out here. Once I saw a yellow bird flying around and I thought it was someone pet canary that got away, it was a yellow warbler. I was used to seeing those little brown wrens and an occasional other bird and that was about it.

Since moving here we’ve been dived bombed by hawks and see wild turkeys all over the place. Plus Bluebirds, Cardinals, the Yellow Warblers, and while trying to fall asleep I listened to the whippoorwills at night. The birds here sorta have you coming and going.

But when I moved off the hill to the city small as it may be then there were trains but that is another story.

So birds are not bad I have even had Blue Jays eat from my hand out in Big Bear but I’d rather stay inside where it’s safer.

Enjoy our day and make each one count!

PS I reserve my right to change my mind on birds and write another article :)
