Too much diet information could be making you fat; eating in moderation is the key to losing weight and it keeping off. Going on a strict diet without eating some of your favorite foods from time to time could make you declare a mutiny, splurge, and then usually feel incredibly guilty. Don't fall into the trap here's diet advice with a bit of a twist.

Completely eliminating sweets: Not buying sweets insures not eating them, well, yeah until you go nuts and buy out the cookie isle, or eat a quart of ice cream in a single sitting. If you are a person that has a sweet tooth prepare for it buy those 100-calorie packs of snacks. Companies like Nabisco, Hershey's, Keebler, and many other national brands are now packaging their snacks in wee little bags so you are bound to find your favorite.

Eating from the small bag will help you learn portion size instead of just grabbing handfuls out of the big bag and not keeping track of how many servings you just ate. While you may feel the need to eat a snack pack everyday before you do distract yourself with a brisk walk, call a friend, read a chapter of your favorite book, or drink a glass of water.

See if you can go without the snack if not enjoy. Although snack packs are more expensive if it helps you curb the need to devour an entire bag of Doritos it's worth it. Sometimes having a few munchies in the house reassures people that they are not starving themselves, others it is a license to snack constantly.

If you are an ice cream eater (who isn't) switch to fudge bars they have hardly any fat compared to regular ice cream and they help with the chocolate craving.

Drinking your calories like soda or coffee: Soda is liquid sugar and has no nutritional value whatsoever. I encourage you to give it up or do not drink more than one 12oz - 16oz serving a day, I know please don't faint...if I can do it so can you I've gone years now just drinking water.

However, I do like coffee from time to time let me rephrase that I like creamer. Unless you drink your coffee black adding several packs of sugar and few tablespoons of creamer has the same effect. You have heaped on the empty calories and now you will be jacked up on sugar as well as caffeine. Try to wean yourself to one special coffee a week or better every other week.

To combat these cravings try switching to green tea which now comes in a variety of flavors. Consider trying a vegetable juice like V8, it may help curb your appetite. There is also Amazing Grass Superfood, which is a green drink. Both drinks give you a portion of your daily veggies complete with vitamins and antioxidants. The Superfood brand also comes in a chocolate flavor.

So give yourself a little leeway with your diet don't under indulge and go on a rampage and just the opposite don't say "just today I'll eat this and tomorrow I'll go back on my diet" then the next day eat it again, and so on. You have to draw the moderation line in the sand otherwise you will undo all the good you've done. Balance is the key to healthy weight loss.
